Ragnarok Online turned 23 this year, and Gravity is marking the milestone with one of its longer-running celebrations in recent memory. The 23rd Anniversary Event went live on the international (iRO) servers in mid-June and, rather than wrapping up after a couple of weeks, has kept expanding with follow-up activities that are still active as of this September's patch cycle.

For a game that first launched in 2002, still running a live event deep into its 23rd year is itself the story: it's a reminder of how much staying power this MMORPG has retained among its core community, and it gives lapsed players a concrete reason to log back in.

What's actually in the event

The celebration centers on a festival hub in Hugel, built around three repeatable daily quests:

  • Kafra Agent Hunting Quest — hunt monsters scaled to level 30 and above for experience and Anniversary Balloons.
  • Lovelean's Taming Quest — capture 10 Cake Porings using a special net scattered across Rune-Midgard.
  • Leilah's Random Quest — complete a rotating set of tasks assigned around Hugel.

Balloons earned from these quests can either be opened for random rewards or turned in to NPC Caprese for guaranteed items. Layered on top is an Anniversary Pass, a progression track that hands out bonus rewards as players complete event content, with extra perks for VIP-status accounts.

The standout rewards are a set of non-tradeable, event-exclusive gear pieces — including the 23rd Anniversary Armor [1] and 23rd Anniversary Scarf [1], which carry stat bonuses plus boosted EXP and item-drop rates — alongside cosmetic items like the Costume Poring Royalty, obtainable through exchange and evolution mechanics.

A milestone that keeps growing

What started as a single festival event in June has since been extended with additional pieces: an Anniversary Jumping Event and a dedicated Login Event, both layered onto the original quest line. Maintenance notes from early September confirmed the anniversary event was still active on the international client, and regional publishing partners have run their own parallel festivities — Thailand's Gravity Game Hub server, for instance, paired its own early-September patch with rate-up and seasonal events of its own.

That kind of sustained, multi-month live-ops push across several regional versions is notable for a title of this age, and it underlines that Ragnarok Online's publishers are still actively investing in retention content rather than coasting on nostalgia alone.

The event's gear is explicitly non-tradeable and tied to the celebration window — once the anniversary content wraps, unused balloons and unclaimed rewards go with it.

What to remember

If you're thinking about jumping back into Midgard, now is a reasonable time: the EXP and drop-rate boosts on the anniversary gear make leveling noticeably smoother while the event runs, and the quests themselves are short enough to fit into a daily login habit. Because exact end dates and bonus events differ by region and publisher, check your specific server's official news page before assuming the anniversary window is still open — but for iRO players, the 23rd Anniversary Event remains one of the more generous celebrations Gravity has run in years.
